Island Trader Vacations Reviews New Residency Program For Writers
Michigan (PRWEB) March 14, 2014 -- Is there a writer on this train? Amtrak wishes there were, and for some chosen writers, they may be doing so on Amtrak soon. While the U.S. has lagged behind in terms of train travel in recent decades compared to Europe for example, Amtrak is finding new and creative ways to bolster sales perhaps and show people that train travel is once again a viable option for travel in the U.S.
The writers residency offered by Amtrak actually began in late February. Created out of an idea posted on twitter by a freelance writer, Amtrak has now officially rolled out its new program which has begun accepting applications. The selection process is scheduled to take place beginning March the 17th 2014 through March 31st 2015. According to Amtrak, the criterion for acceptance includes a desire to travel and a love of creative writing.
Some people may be under the impression that this could not possibly be true, there has to be some sort of catch. It appears in this case, it is actually free and is not too good to be true. Amtrak’s new residency program was created to allow writers who enjoy travel, the opportunity to be inspired and at no cost. According to the rules issued by Amtrak on their website, blog.amtrak.com, those accepted will be provided with round-trip train travel on one of Amtrak’s long-distance routes. This will include a private sleeper car with desk and bed and of course a window for easy access to the views which will undoubtedly inspire even the most blocked mind.
For hundreds of years, writers, musicians and visual artists have found their inspiration in the American countryside. Whether traveling by car or train, the fact remains, there is plenty to inspire. From the beautiful Texas Hill Country to the awe inspiring views of the mighty Adirondacks and beyond, the U.S. is filled with opportunities for inspiration and it appears, now is the time to do just that, be inspired.
