Island County Begins E-Recording with Simplifile

From our perspective, electronic recording of documents is about efficiency and improved customer service.

Island County, Wash., has started electronically recording documents through Simplifile, the nation’s largest electronic recording (e-recording) service provider, saving time and money for the county and its customers.

E-recording is a secure method of submitting, receiving, and processing documents such as land records for recording online, which are otherwise submitted by mail, runner, or courier service.

Island County Auditor Sheilah Crider is pleased to announce the implementation of e-recording of documents.

“From our perspective, electronic recording of documents is about efficiency and improved customer service. It saves time for our customers, is an efficient use of staff time and reduces costs of paper and postage – saving taxpayer dollars,” Crider said. “E-recording enables us to provide a safe form of transmittal of documents to be recorded and significantly reduces the time required for recording versus those that are mailed to us. Time is of the essence for documents that must be recorded. Implementation of e-recording enables us to meet improved customer service objectives.”

With Simplifile’s e-recording service now available, organizations such as title companies, banks, attorneys, and lien filers will be able to submit documents via the Internet and have them recorded and returned back from the county in minutes.

Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.

High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.

Island County is the 21st e-recording county in the state of Washington and joins more than 1,195 recording jurisdictions that e-record with Simplifile nationwide.
