In 2011 Mahmood Khan was formally designated a 'Distinguished Talent,' by the Australian government.

The Pakistan born singer and songwriter was the first Pakistani national to achieve mainstream success in Australia with his number one song Like the River. Four years after his ground-breaking performance and live recording, Khan returns to the Sydney Opera House for an intimate concert and to show how much an artist can develop his style over the course of four short years.

After years of work as a sound engineer in Los Angeles, Khan undertook voice lessons from Seth Riggs and developed his song writing skills. At the same time, he was working for Jam Power in L.A. and involved with producing music and gaining an insider’s knowledge of the music industry.

In 1997 his first solo album Fairytale was released worldwide. The album sold over 6 million units and featured performances by Legendary world music Artist Nusrat Fateh Ali.

Khan moved to Sydney in 2007, later becoming the first Pakistani artist to record a live album at the Sydney Opera House. The song We Could be Paradise was born from Khan’s involvement with charity fundraising for the Red Cross. While 40 Australian artists worked on the track, Khan also produced and directed the video clip.

Khan was commissioned by the Pakistani government to compose the music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 South Asian Federation Games, and in 2011 was formally designated a “Distinguished Talent,” by the Australian government.

His YouTube channel received over 50 million views in early 2011 and Khan was invited to perform live on Australian television. His return to the Sydney Opera House will feature Khan’s 10 piece band and is expected to be a world-class affair. As the only Pakistani artist to ever record back to back live performances here -- and arguably the most popular foreign-born artist in Australia -- Khan's return is seen as a historic event.
