Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- ITJobsWeb.com, the leading information technology jobs and computer employment website for IT professionals, offers an overview of key employment trends in the computer systems and design industry for August 2013 based on preliminary statistics reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in the monthly Employment Situation Economic Release.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report September 6, 2013 announcing a .14 percent increase in the number of workers in the computer systems and design industry from July 2013 – August 2013. The computer systems and design industry now employs 1.7 million workers compared to 1.69 million in July 2013. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has adjusted these statics for seasonal changes within the computer systems and design industry.
This computer and design industry is one of the few sectors that has seen great progress since the recession. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts rapid growth for the industry over the next decade. Expected output growth by 2020 is 6.1 percent on average per year. Employment in this sector is expected to increase 3.9 percent annually leading up to 2020, compared to a mere 1.3 project growth for all industries.
BLS attributes the rapid growth to the growing need for information technology services in companies across industries. Cloud computing and cyber security are believe to be the two major forces catapulting the IT industry to greater heights, resulting in more demand for IT professionals. Healthcare IT, mobile networking, and data management may also contribute to employment growth. Computer engineer jobs, support specialist, systems analysts, programmers, and software developers for both systems and applications are the occupations expected to see the most growth in this sector. Software developers for systems lead the pack with an expected growth in employment of 72 percent from 2010 to 2020. Employment among computer engineers is expected to grow 49 percent during this period, computer support specialist 43 percent, computer systems analysts 43 percent, computer programmers 29 percent, and software developers for applications 57 percent.
