The story is a chronicle of events taking place in the Griffith family as history-making events are occurring simultaneously outside the family.

Spanning several decades, “Without a Song” (published by Archway Publishing) by Janet Logan narrates the saga of the Griffith family that includes marital conflict, health problems, work and career issues and the cycle of life through the stock market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, the ’30s, World War II and beyond. It shares the impact of these events on the four main characters – and the impact of those characters on one another.

“The story is a chronicle of events taking place in the Griffith family as history-making events are occurring simultaneously outside the family,” says Logan.

The memoir focuses mostly on Logan and her immediate family – shifting perspectives between the author herself, her mother, father and aunt. Readers get an insider’s look at an earlier period of American history, but the book ultimately centers on the unwavering elements that make up the human condition.

“Readers will identify with many of my family’s problems,” Logan says. “The same relevance it would have yesterday and tomorrow, because human nature changes very little.”
