South Florida JAZZ, the area’s premier modern jazz organization, is excited to present the Kurt Rosenwinkel Quartet on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 8:00 PM. This is the first appearance in South Florida for this international star guitarist. The concert takes place at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the Nova Southeastern University campus, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr Blvd, Davie 33314. One of the most influential jazz guitarists of his generation, Kurt Rosenwinkel, who recently returned full-time to the US from his academic position in Europe, brings a unique approach to composition and interplay typically with magnificent sidemen, as will be the case for this appearance, his first in South Florida.
Mr. Rosenwinkel was trained at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and immediately hired by Gary Burton, who has a penchant for discovering the most important guitarists for more than 40 years. He has devoted thousands of hours refining a techniques and conception that a huge number of young guitarists now regard as definitive. Kurt played in several cutting-edge bands in addition to becoming a successful leader.
Added to his prowess as a player, he is a gifted composer and arranger and has surrounded himself with like minded collaborators, especially pianist Aaron Parks.
