Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan: Will Amazon Smartphone Arrive June 18?
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 05, 2014 -- Amazon.com is getting ready to make an announcement on June 18. Word is this is the Amazon Smartphone, says Fortune, June 18.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“The excitement is building as we get ready for what we expect to be the announcement by CEO Jeff Bezos of the brand new Amazon Smartphone,” says Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan.
“I have been a customer and users of Amazon.com for longer than I can remember, but now Amazon.com is moving into my corner of the world… smartphones. Now I have to look at them in a different light… as an analyst evaluating a competitor.” Says Principal analyst Kagan.
Very little is known about the Amazon smartphone at this point. We aren’t even sure whether the June 18 announcement will be for their new smartphone.
Comments in this press release are assuming however that this is true. What can we expect?
“This will be one of the biggest and most exciting announcements in quite a while. However excitement won’t guarantee success. As a few examples in recent years remember the Facebook smartphone and the Comcast wireless phones along with the entire cable television industry. Not one company hit the target. Even Google struggles with their own versions of smartphones,” says Technology analyst Kagan.
“Even smartphone makers struggle. Sure there are big success stories like Apple with the iPhone, Google Android and Samsung with the Galaxy S5, but there are also countless other companies who are struggling. What does Amazon.com offer the customer to bridge the gap and let them be successful?” asks Tech analyst Kagan.
“The phone itself has to blow users away. That is the first step. It will have to have some very innovative features that make users think they want to try this device. Then it will have to work with other Amazon.com devices like the Kindle book reading and web surfing tablet,” says Kagan.
“There is a very big hill for Amazon to climb, but if they are successful, the opportunity can be huge. Remember, Amazon.com does not appear to make a profit on their devices like the Kindle. They look at these devices like the shaver and the razor. They give devices like the Kindle and perhaps this new smartphone away almost at cost, and make their profits on the products they buy with it,” says Kagan.
“This is a completely different model than the traditional wireless model. How will this impact Amazon.com changes at success? We’ll see. However I have learned it’s not wise to bet against them. However we’ll just have to wait and see what comes next,” says Kagan.
