Sprint’s new idea is to send a rep to your home or office and upgrade your wireless phone, says Wireless Analyst and Telecom Analyst Jeff Kagan

Sprint introduces a brand new idea in wireless called “Direct 2 You” which is a new way to upgrade your smartphone, says this Sprint Press Release and Press Kit, Apr. 13.

Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.

“When it’s time to upgrade your phone, you typically have two choices. Go to a store and wait, or go online and try to make the right choice. Now Sprint offers a third choice. They will come to you in a Sprint vehicle and personally upgrade you wherever you are.” Says Wireless Analyst Jeff Kagan.

“This is a brand new idea that may just catch on in the wireless industry. I believe Sprint is the only carrier to offer this service to customers. It’s a novel idea which may turn out to be a real winner for Sprint and their customers,” says Telecom Analyst Kagan.

“Will this be right for every customer. Of course not, but no single program is right for every customer. The point here is to give a variety of ways to serve customers and let the customer choose,” says Kagan.

“I believe this idea could be a real winner with a slice of the consumer pie. Not everyone wants to visit a store or log onto a web site. Some would prefer a personal visit,” says Kagan.

“Plus it’s very conceivable that a personal visit will mean the customer will buy more accessories than if they went to a busy store. The numbers and the results will be interesting to see,” says Kagan.

This does not have to be duplicated by other wireless carriers to be considered successful. Consider what Enterprise Rent a Car does with their customers. Enterprise drops off the car at the customer location. This is not duplicated by Hertz or Avis, but is still successful for Enterprise.

“So Sprint could attract the group of customers who like this kind of personalized service. We’ll have to see how well this program does, however it is very creative, thoughtful and innovative,” says Kagan.

“It’s good to see Sprint coming out of their shell, being creative and really making some news lately with their half off programs, their new retail stores and now this home delivery,” says Kagan.

“The only question I have is what’s coming next from Sprint? Stay tuned," asks Jeff Kagan.
