Microsoft is moving forward into the new and highly competitive Cloud space, according to Reuters, Mar. 31.

Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.

“Microsoft has been one of the most important tech companies in history, however the last decade or two has seen little in the way of growth. They tried to get into growing sectors like the Internet, wireless and others with limited success. Could things be getting ready to change now as they begin to enter the Cloud space?” Asks Tech analyst Jeff Kagan.

There will be several really hot growth sectors in the next several years. The Cloud is hot right now. It’s really just in the very early stages, but everyone is starting to use the term, the Cloud in their marketing, advertising and public relations.

There are companies who have made some serious progress in this space. There are also companies who have not made any headway, but are using the term in marketing. Then there are companies, who should be there, who just are not. Microsoft was not.

“This was a serious mistake. Microsoft should be leading the way into this space instead of following other large and small competitors. The Cloud is a new competitive space. There is not an hierchy yet. This is the perfect time for Microsoft to stick their flag in the ground with everyone else and then start building. They have not, until now.” Says Technology analyst Kagan.

“There are several sectors that are growing and hot. Some have been with us for a while, however the Cloud is a brand new opportunity that Microsoft has missed during the last several quarters as other competitors have started to make their move.” Says Wireless analyst Kagan.

“Suddenly we are seeing signs that Microsoft is waking up in the cloud space. Advertising saying, Microsoft Cloud is being seen everywhere. This is new. This is good. This is a sign that the old giant might be finally waking up.” Says Principal analyst Kagan.

“Congratulations to new CEO Satya Nadella on this first of hopefully many moves that will let Microsoft start to build and grow once again. It’s a fine balance of introducing new technology and not ignoring the needs of many customers to stay put for now. Can they do it? Let’s hope.” Says Kagan.
