Jensen Deflective Separator Approved for City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii
Jensen Precast Infrastructure Solution to Help Eliminate Stormwater Pollutants Discharged from Island Storm Drains
SPARKS, Nev., April 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jensen Precast today announced the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, has approved the Jensen Deflective Separator (JDS) System as a Manufacturer Treatment Device (MTD) for stormwater. The approval follows verification by New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology (NJCAT) and certification by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), a national recognized two-step compliance program for stormwater devices.
JDS System approval in Honolulu paves the way for Jensen Precast to offer municipal and commercial customers a complete stormwater solution managed locally by the company's manufacturing facility in Kapolei, Hawaii. Jensen Precast is one of the largest independently owned precast concrete companies in the United States, with branches in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Oregon.
"We are pleased our customers in Hawaii can now reap the full benefits of the JDS System to help eliminate stormwater runoff pollutants discharged from island storm drains," said Walter Stein, PE, Jensen Precast Stormwater Systems Manager. "Approval of the JDS System by the City and County of Honolulu is a key step toward removing Total Suspended Solids (TSS) from near shore ocean and river waters. Our local team in Kapolei provides expert stormwater solution support to engineers and contractors building Hawaii's infrastructure."
The process to attain NJCAT verification and NJDEP certification for the JDS System began in Sparks, Nevada, at Jensen Precast's outdoor facility. Company stormwater engineers conducted repeatable full scale TSS removal tests under independent third party observation. Keith Dennett, PhD, PE, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno, provided his detailed laboratory review to NJCAT. In verifying the JDS System, Richard Magee, ScD, PE, Executive Director of NJCAT, remarked: "Based on my review, evaluation, and assessment of the testing, the requirements of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Laboratory Protocol to Assess Total Suspended Solids Removal by a Hydrodynamic Sedimentation Manufactured Treatment Device were met or exceeded."
Jensen Precast continues advancing stormwater solutions for communities, businesses, and government agencies. The Honolulu approval follows certification of the JDS System this past year as a Full Capture System Device for Trash Treatment Control by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
"We are pleased to offer our local engineers and contractors a stormwater solution recognized by the Department of Planning and Permitting Rules Relating to Water Quality for the City and County of Honolulu," said Garret Lau, General Manager of the Jensen Precast Honolulu Branch. "Our customers can count on us to provide the highest quality products and a collaborative approach to helping solve environmental challenges. The JDS System is the right product for the job."
