Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) June 30, 2015
On First Thursday, when major art galleries share their newest exhibits in Portland's cultural district, an opening reception for “Outside/In”, a solo exhibition of new work by Jeremy Nichols will be held from 7 to 10 pm at IDL Worldwide’s Gallery 135, 135 NW Park Avenue.
Taking inspiration from Nicholas’ multi-ethnic background, the images in the series “Outside/In” portrays a look into the struggle of being torn between residing in Japan and upstate New York as a child. The chaotic harmony through “repetitive elements of architectural design and familiar patterns” is a representation of Nicholas’ internal conflict of being unable to fully adapt to only one location and trying to make sense of finding one’s place within these opposing cultures.
By combining the repetitive elements of architectural design with familiar patterns found in nature, the artist hopes to enhance the relationship and energy between landscapes and the human condition. Nichols’ recent graphite series invites viewers “to take a position from the outside, challenging their own understanding of contemporary society.”
Jeremy Nichols was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1982. He currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
The reception is open to everyone.
