Jim Ellis Chevy Buick GMC Honors World War II Veterans During Meet Our Veterans Event
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- Jim Ellis Chevy Buick GMC is a proud sponsor of the Meet Our Veterans event at the Concourse Athletic Club in Sandy Springs on May 25 from 1-5 p.m. Medal of Honor Recipient, General James Livingston will speak at the event. There will be 50 exhibitors of veterans from World War II through Afghanistan. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Join us as we celebrate our World War II heroes at the appropriate time of Memorial Day weekend.
The Atlanta World War II Round Table and the Concourse Athletic Club will be hosting the Meet the Veterans: Honoring Those Who Served event with exhibits, displays and personal testimonies of living veterans of past wars. The Atlanta World War II Round Table is a guild that was organized in 1986 with the objective of recording and preserving the history of World War II. Members of the organization include army generals, navy captains, air force pilots, buck privates, Pearl Harbor survivors, liberators of concentration camps and women who served during World War II. The Atlanta World War II Round Table has over 250 members and continues to lecture at events around the United States.
General James Livingston, event guest speaker, was born in Towns, Ga., and attended Auburn University before he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. According to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, in 1968, Livingston was a part of Company E, 2nd Battalion when he led his men to assault positions across 500 meters of open rice paddy fields while under enemy fire. He was wounded twice by grenade fragments during the assault on the village of Dai Do. Livingston was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Richard Nixon on May 14, 1970. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force, which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States (CMOHS).
President of the World War II Round Table of Atlanta Lee Weinstein said, “The Meet Our Veterans event at the Concourse Athletic Club will be a thrilling opportunity for youngsters and their parents to meet the real live World War II heroes they have read about, seen on television and in the movies. Visitors will also have an opportunity to meet veterans and affiliated organizations of all our wars and talk to these men and women about what they did to protect our country in times of danger. Jim Ellis and all our sponsors and Exhibitors also remember those heroes on the day before Memorial Day who didn't come home and we shall never forget their ultimate sacrifice for us and their Country."
