Jimali McKinnon’s new poetry book, “Love Should Be a Two-Way Game: Poems Written in the Deep Dark of the Night” (published by Balboa Press AU), shares poems that range from the humorous to the serious, in a wide variety of poetic styles on diverse subjects people deal with in life.

The poems in this collection reflect on the human condition; McKinnon writes about her struggle with lupus as well as an imaginary love story that ends badly. Poems are written different formats, rhyme and free verse and some poems have an in-between style that is a mixture of rhyme and free verse.

McKinnon hopes that her poetry will entertain readers. She also hopes that the poems on serious subject matters will cause readers to consider those issues.

An excerpt from the poem “Love Should Be a Two-Way Game” in “Love Should Be a Two-Way Game”:
Love should be a two-way game, / With no balancing of guilt or blame— / So when we walk side by side, / There is no need to keep in step. / Just don’t ask me to provide / Evidence of promises kept. / When has love been so solidly a thing / That I need to prove my loving you?
