The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk funds research to find cures and ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk funds research to find cures and ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients,” said Joe, whose daughter Olivia is a Leukemia survivor. “I strongly urge the community to come out and support this worthy cause that literally saves lives, like my daughter Olivia’s.”

For the first time in three years, Olivia, who is now Leukemia-free, is no longer on dialysis three times a week but still has checkups at the Children’s Hospital once a month and visits the “HOPE” clinic once a year for evaluations regarding the treatment she received for Leukemia. Additionally, Olivia will be captaining a team at the Light the Night Walk to help raise funds.

“The Light the Night Walk brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and our team is helping to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients,” said Olivia, 20, who recently moved to Denver to attend college full-time. “Without your efforts, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society could not fund the research of such treatments.”

Olivia was the honored hero for the Light the Night Walk in 2013 and is a spokesperson for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Olivia plans to continue to do volunteer work with the society and any other opportunities that might come her way, including future Light the Night Walks.

“Your participation in the Light the Night Walk will save lives not someday, but today,” said Olivia’s mother, Shelly. “Our trust is in God and to take things one day at a time.”
