Dr. Joel Hilaire’s New Book Demonstrates Cancer Patients’ Fight
Orlando, Fla. (PRWEB) June 05, 2014 -- When Dr. Joel Hilaire’s sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer, the news hit him hard. As a doctor, Hilaire was familiar with diagnosing others, but seeing it happen to someone he was so close with was overwhelming. His sister-in-law’s grace and dignity through this disease inspired Hilaire to shed the stethoscope and sit in the patient’s chair to see a new perspective. “On the Other Side of the Desk” (published by iUniverse) is Hilaire’s true account of four individuals battling cancer.
“Cancer is among the top 10 leading causes of death in the world and is second only to heart diseases in the United States,” Hilaire says. “The more we understand about cancer, the better we can protect ourselves and break this cycle of death by this vicious disease.”
The book is split between the accounts of two people with pancreatic cancer and two with breast cancer.
“On the Other Side of the Desk” demonstrates how cancer affects people from all walks of life. Most of all, it reveals the four individuals four different approaches for dealing with their fight against cancer as they fall back on psychological, spiritual, cultural and philosophical support.
An excerpt from “On the Other Side of the Desk”:
“When she broke the news to her family, everyone in her close environment looked at that thirty-nine-year old woman as if she had just received a death sentence. ‘No one told me about living,’ she said later, but she was asked to go and visit her relatives in Haiti before it was too late.”
