John of John’s Crazy Socks Introduces a Tribute Sock for His Sock Buddy, President George H. W. Bush

John Cronin is the co-founder and Chief Happiness Officer of John’s Crazy Socks. John and the former President became friends because of their mutual love of socks. John sent Mr. Bush socks and the former President sent John socks. But there is more to it than just socks. Both are entrepreneurs, and both are advocates for people with differing abilities. As John’s co-founder, his father Mark X. Cronin, has said, “Without President Bush and the Americans with Disabilities Act, there would be no John’s Crazy Socks.”
Their connection started back in the spring of 2017, when John learned that former President Bush loved crazy socks. John said, “We should send him some socks.” Mr. Bush liked them enough that his office called and ordered some more. Then the president sent John a letter thanking John for the socks and he sent John a pair of USO socks.
The President’s letter said, “I am happy to see that you and I have the same taste in fun, colorful socks…You are a wonderful example of what Americans can do despite challenges that they face. We are proud of all you have accomplished in the past two years. “
John then sent the former President a pair of his Down Syndrome Super Hero Socks. These were special socks that John designed and raise money for the National Down Syndrome Society and ACDS.
President Bush wore those socks on World Down Syndrome Day and tweeted a picture of him wearing the socks. He wrote, “Yesterday I was inspired by my friend John Cronin to wear these beauties from @JohnsCrazySocks marking World Down Syndrome Day. A great sock supporting a wonderful cause.”
When Barbara Bush passed away, President Bush’s office reached out to John for socks to wear to honor his wife’s legacy of promoting literacy. John was so proud to offer some comfort to the President at such a sad time. We continue to celebrate Mrs. Bush’s legacy by making those socks a fundraiser for the Barbara Bush Family Literacy Foundation.
