John E. Simonds’ New Poetry Collection Shares Time Travels of Memory
HONOLULU (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- Author John E. Simonds sees poetry as a way to revisit experiences and reflect on them, or view them in today’s light. He invites readers to take a walk down memory lane with him in his new poetry collection, “Footnotes to the Sun” (published by iUniverse), in which he reflects on the past few decades of his life.
Simonds, a Depression-era child of New England parents, lived in New York, Indiana, Ohio and D.C. before arriving in Hawaii. In “Footnotes to the Sun,” Simonds discusses the many experiences he has had throughout life, touching on places he has visited and the people he has met in a range of situations.
“The aim of exploring memory is not to live in the past but, as in the restoring of faded photographs, to recognize events, people and circumstances (hopefully in sharper definition) for what they contribute to current life,” Simonds says.
An excerpt from the poem “Finishing Touch,” featured in “Footnotes to the Sun”:
“ … happy to keep both feet
in the game, knowing
the hands of the clock
keep moving, but not so fast
they can shove us out … ”
