Johnny Wimbrey Establishes Scholarship Fund for High School Alma Mater
Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) June 02, 2014 -- Internationally renowned life coach Johnny Wimbrey will visit Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth, TX on June 2 to recognize the first three winners of the newly established Johnny Wimbrey Pathway to Performance Excellence Scholarship. The scholarship is for students pursuing a post-secondary education in performance, theatre, or public speaking.
Designed to recognize students pursuing a non-traditional path, like its namesake, the scholarship places an emphasis on improvement and overcoming adversity. Students submitted a personal essay describing the challenges they have faced and how their involvement in our theatre program has helped to set them on a better path. The three winners will receive $3,000, $1,000 and $1,000.
Wimbrey, a graduate of Trimble Tech, went on to become a celebrity life coach, best-selling author, and motivational speaker. He is passionate about impacting the lives of children and young adults.
“We are proud and privileged to be part of this opportunity,” said Cheryl Penland, director of Trimble Tech’s theatre program. “We’re glad that he wants to give back and perpetuate a legacy of excellence at his alma mater.”
On Monday, June 2, Johnny will meet with the first three winners of the Johny Wimbrey Pathway to Performance Excellence Scholarship, distribute copies of his book From the Hood to Doing Good, and address an assembly of upperclassmen. He will share his personal journey from early poverty and gang life to a successful coaching and speaking career that has seen him share the stage with Les Brown, and the late Zig Ziglar and Jim Rohn.
“Johnny is funny, charismatic and very sincere,” Penland said. “Our students will gain a lot from hearing him speak.”
