JohnsByrne Awarded 2018 PPC Paperboard Package of the Year for its Decemberist's Packaging Design
JohnsByrne's packaging for the Decemberists - I'll Be Your Girl "The Exploded Edition" box set was awarded the prestigious honor of the 2018 Paperboard Package of the Year. This all-inclusive box set incorporated limited-edition collectibles along with fan-focused innovative visual and structural design.
NILES, Ill., Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- JohnsByrne's work for the Decemberists - I'll Be Your Girl "The Exploded Edition" box set took home the award as Paperboard Package of the Year at the 2018 Paperboard Packaging Council Awards. Hosted annually by the North American Paperboard Packaging Association, the Paperboard Packaging Competition is the premier competition for carton manufacturers involved in the concept, design, print, performance, and shelf appeal of paperboard packaging. The Package of the Year award is the competition's top honor and emphasizes a package's overall achievements in design and structure.
Judged by a jury of packaging professionals, industry experts, and professors, the annual PPC Awards competition is one of the industry's most recognized competitions. "At JohnsByrne, we pride ourselves in creating unique packaging designs that come to life. Being recognized as the Package of the Year is truly an honor," explained Corey Gustafson, President, JohnsByrne.
The pin-wheel packaging page-turning factor mimics a pop-up book and encourages fans to interact and engage with the packaging through touch. Each page incorporates one-of-a-kind artwork that presents priceless value to fans. Some of the artwork was manufactured to be pushed downward when opened to create the optical illusion of elevation. Thanks to the use of matte lamination, the packaging has a canvas feel.
The goal of the packaging was to truly create a limited experience for loyal fans. The unique page elevations, hidden Illimat card, and pop-up pinwheel page-turning factors make this packaging worthy of the Paperboard Package of the Year. The multiple interactive elements, combined with a sensory experience, created a package that was a true experience for fans.
"We could not be happier with how this package turned out. Our goal was to create a truly special experience for Decemberists fans. Being recognized by industry experts as package of the year is just a byproduct of our mission as a packaging company," explained Gustafson.
JohnsByrne has been recognized by the PPC multiple years and for multiple categories in the past including the Judge's Award in 2016 and 2017 and Package of the Year in 2013 for outstanding work for Motorola's Razr Maxx HD Phone Sales Launch Kit.
JohnsByrne was also awarded the competition's Innovation Award for an entry featuring a ground-breaking child-resistant packaging. To learn more about these projects or JohnsByrne's capabilities, visit http://www.johnsbyrne.com.
