NEW HAVEN, CONN. (PRWEB) June 19, 2014

The Connecticut auto accident firm of Jonathan Perkins Injury Lawyers is reminding all motorists to be alert for more teen drivers on the road during the summer months.

With the school year behind us, more teens are using their new freedom to take to the roadways. While many teens are safe and conscientious drivers, the combination of inexperience and tempting distractions makes summer months the most deadly for young adults.

According to a report from AAA, Memorial Day begins the 100 deadliest days driving days of the year for teenaged drivers. An average of 261 teens die in traffic crashes each month during June, July and August, an increase of 26% from the rest of the year.

Parents can set rules for their teens to keep them safe over the summer. AAA recommends that teens avoid situations that are excessively dangerous, like:

  •     Distracted driving—texting or cell phone use while driving, changing radio stations, or eating while driving may all be too distracting for inexperienced drivers to handle.
  •     Driving at night—teens are more likely to be involved in an accident at night than during the day. Try to limit the time your teen spends driving after daylight hours.
  •     Driving with passengers—transporting friends greatly increases your teen’s risk of an accident. Speak with your child about ways to minimize the distractions caused by passengers.

Jonathan Perkins Injury Lawyers urge parents to establish ground rules with their children, which will help keep all drivers safe on Connecticut’s roads. Encourage teens to always wear a seat belt, to pay attention to the road, and to never drink and drive.
