“The Forgotten War: Fire and Death” is a shining tribute to the firefighter heroes during the war in fire and death. It educates readers how dangerous a fireman’s job truly is and how admirable is their dedication to this valuable profession.

“As a firefighter, even though you’ve fought similar fires, many times you never take anything for granted,” author Joseph F. Maraglino says. He shares his story in “The Forgotten War: Fire and Death” (published by Xlibris in August of 2016).

Firefighters are constantly fighting the red devil – fire every day. Firefighters take oaths to protect life and property, risking life and limb. The author is one of them. Maraglino wrote this book to enlighten the families of firefighters who were fighting the war in the ‘60s and ‘70s South Bronx. This book is not just to praise the New York City Fire Department (NYCFD); it is also for all firefighters, especially volunteers who do their regular jobs.

The book digs deep into the organized plot to incinerate South Bronx, relocating thousands and injuring hundreds of firemen, many dying before their time. These firemen fought two or three fires a night. It also touches on cases where gangs threw objects off roofs at firemen and setting booby traps to injure them. These gangs also made it unsafe to walk the streets at night. Most especially, the book highlights the heroics of brave men and women who put their lives on the line in the name of duty and service to the community.
