Journalist Takes Career of Stories/Characters and Writes Political Thriller
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (PRWEB) July 01, 2019 -- A former journalist for TIME and Forbes magazines, as well as numerous California newspapers, Al Butkus has seen it all. With a career full of colorful characters and drama to pull from, he decided to draw on his experiences and write a thrilling story of his own.
In “Woman in the Pin-Striped Suit,” Butkus weaves a suspenseful tale of narrow escapes, as one man attempts to protect a family and their secrets. The fight against injustice and greed is led by an unlikely hero, who risks his own life to protect the lives of the children of a chemist who created an immensely profitable formula wanted by powerful politicians willing to do anything to obtain it.
“Many things I saw as a reporter and writer never fit the stories I was writing at the time,” Butkus said. “But they remained in my memory and fueled the basic core of this book. Many people I interviewed and worked with became characters that took on a life of their own.”
Butkus received his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Penn State University, and a master’s of science in Organization Communications from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a communication executive for Phillips Petroleum (now Conoco Phillips), Verizon and Aquila, Inc. He is an adjunct communications professor at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC).
“The character of Cynthia Barnes Reynolds is a composite of strong women I worked with, when feminism was on the rebound and women graduating from college was on the rise,” Butkus said. “She embodies female empowerment and fuels the strong, feminist undertone of my book.”
