Russia’s Pavel Kaplevich Exhibits the “Art of Money” Collection at ArtHamptons
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- This weekend, thousands of guests at ArtHamptons Fine Art Fair will discover the art of Pavel Kaplevich, a Russian 3D tapestry phenomenon exhibiting his artwork in the U.S. for the first time. Kaplevich debuts his “Art of Money” series at the fair from July 11th through July 14th.
Known for his patented three-dimensional "germinated" fabrics, Kaplevich masterfully weaves together unlikely materials like silk, glass or tree bark, creating a live foundation that serves as a canvas for painted and silkscreened images. By germinating these materials through canvas, silk, and other fabrics, and then painting or silk-screening an image over it, Kaplevich produces a multidimensional, textural effect that resembles finely painted murals. His works have graced the collections of such art connoisseurs as Elton John, Kevin Spacey, and Evgeny Lebedev.
Pavel Kaplevich garnered wide recognition as a talented theater set designer, bringing literary masterpieces to life on the world's most prestigious stages, including Moscow's Bolshoi Theater. As an artist, Pavel was dubbed a "creative provocateur," a modern "Diaghilev," and an indisputable art influencer.
The “Art of Money” Series:
Presented by New York-based Global Art Group, the “Art of Money” features the images of recognizable historic figures that currently grace the banknotes of the world.
Since the invention of paper money in pre-modern China about 806 AD, the concept of a banknote has undergone a significant transformation, leaving the paper currency with no intrinsic value and causing people to blame money for the flaws in modern economy. Money has become a cultural paradox – with no value in and of itself, it is an object of worship for many, yet also perceived as a diabolic icon and the source of greed.
Through his art, Kaplevich attempts to revive the original meaning of money, reminding us that its purpose is to serve people, not to enslave them. In this series, the artist humanizes banknotes by enlivening the images of the remarkable individuals portrayed on them, focusing on their historic impact. Kaplevich finds symbolism in banknotes, challenging the viewer to reinterpret oversaturated images and interact with them in a novel way.
