Karmalot, an application used to send and receive gift cards through Facebook friends, is out there to support local businesses in San Francisco. “We are excited to contribute in showcasing San Francisco local businesses during the America's cup,” said Amir Razmara, Co-Founder of Karmalot.
After conducting hours of researching and interviewing local business owners in the Marina, Karmalot realized the frustration many of these retailers felt during the America’s Cup. Despite the massive influx of people from all over the world, very little of that foot traffic makes it up to the Marina vendors despite its close proximity to where people can watch the races.
Realizing a problem, Karmalot looked for a solution for these local businesses in the Marina. Together they came up with a plan to divert the America’s Cup viewers towards the vendors by offering special discounts during the finals period and throughout the rest of the month.
Karmalot will be flyering on the Marina Green, and paying for advertising to let people know about the America’s Cup discounts being offered by: Greens and Company – Organic Judiciary, WeOlive, The Social Beauty Co., Hole In The Wall Pizza, and The Sandwich Spot.
To access the discount, all one has to do is to send the e-coupons from the “Deals on Me” menu on the Karmalot website. The recipient of the e-coupons can then download a free iPhone app, Karmalot, and find the e-coupons under “Gifts Received” menu. Just by showing this page on an iPhone at the register gets someone that great deal.
This harmonious symbiosis of local businesses and a lean startup working together truly showcases San Francisco’s finest attributes. Download the Karmalot app to find bargains and support local.
