Cheverly, MD – The desire to share teaching tips amassed over the course of 40 years of teaching violin to children and adults inspired Keith Cook to write, “Sight Reading Violin Music: A Guide for the Non-beginner” (published by AuthorHouse).
“I myself learned complex selections by ear. I listened extensively to recordings, and then later bought the music and tried to match what I was seeing with what I had heard,” writes Cook. “The system worked well until I was no longer able to use it (in orchestra rehearsals or chamber groups). While I was a student I documented the things I did to become a complete sight reader.”
Learning to read music seems like a difficult task, and playing by ear is becoming the predominant way people around the world learn to play. “Sight Reading Violin Music” eliminates the fear and mystery by providing a structured way to build confidence and skill, while allowing the ear to aid in the process. Students will become fluent in sight reading, build confidence to play ensemble music and will launch a player into studying higher positions.
