Things are selling quickly and homeowners have to be out in a short period of time. We can give them a quicker option, either by bringing out the moving truck or a MI-BOX® (portable storage container)

With the current Kelowna real estate market trending towards multi-unit housing this year, homeowners are now looking for ways to keep their possessions, without cluttering their new dwellings. Many are turning to a particular Kelowna self storage company that has experience in helping people deal with downsizing.

According to a report in the Kelowna Daily Courier, the local housing market will continue to surge for at least another five years. The article also indicates that there will be a healthy boost in the number of retirees and early retirees—up to a 6.5 per cent increase—buying homes in the area. The majority of this population segment is comprised of empty-nesters. They are seen as one of the key drivers behind the movement towards downsizing and multi-unit housing.

“These multi-unit housing options don’t create a lot of storage within the condo or townhouse structure,” says Yvonne Rogers, Operations Manager at Space Centre Storage. “This is where our business is highly beneficial. We have a huge opportunity to help them out where we can.”

Rogers explains that the sales representatives at Space Centre Storage like to learn about their clients in order to offer personalized storage solutions that address their specific needs. What they’ve noticed is that there are a lot of empty-nesters who covet the convenience of townhouse living, but don’t want to rid themselves of their valued belongings. But because these smaller property types don’t allow for a significant amount of onsite storage, residents have to look elsewhere.

“When we are talking with customers about their move, we are getting to know them and are then able to direct them to the best storage solution,” says Rogers. “We want to focus on the storage solution that works for them, and this approach helps us direct them to the right type of storage.”

Rogers also notes that the brisk activity on the local real estate scene is having an impact on the way people move. Houses are moving quickly, sometimes in a matter of days. This is catching quite a few homeowners by surprise, as they all of a sudden have to move with little warning.

Fortunately, Space Centre Storage offers a number of services that allow home sellers and homebuyers to react quickly in these situations. In particular, they have the ability to quickly deliver one of their MI-BOX® portable storage containers to a residence, even on short notice.

“Things are selling quickly and homeowners have to be out in a short period of time. We can give them a quicker option, either by bringing out the moving truck or a MI-BOX® (portable storage container),” says Rogers.

“That way, they don’t have to plan months ahead what they’re going to do. They can move quickly.”

And whether clients need portable storage containers for a temporary fix, or they require Kelowna self storage for the long term, Space Centre Storage does it all. They also offer: outdoor boat and RV storage; interior vehicle storage in a temperature-controlled facility; and drive-through covered storage units.

“We offer several services with self storage because we want to be more of a full-service facility,” says Rogers.
