Local Realtors, Kevin and Amy Smits ( prove that giving back doesn’t have to only happen during the holidays. This year, a new charity joins the Smits' list of charities they work with, Advocates for Victims of Assault.

No one should be forced to stay in a situation where they or their children don’t feel safe.

Philanthropy is a continuous force restoring people’s faith in humanity. Kevin and Amy Smits help to restore that faith by helping the people in their community. Every year for the last six years, this husband/wife Realtor team gives to the local children in need of help. Many of the charities have remained the same while others have been added as the need arose.

Advocates for Victims of Assault provides a safe haven and counseling for women who have suffered physical and emotional abuse. "No one should be forced to stay in a situation where they or their children don’t feel safe" added Amy Smits. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 800-799-7233.

The Community Dinner through the Rotary Club is as it sounds: it feeds the community. Through Amy’s church, a call went out for additional volunteer help. Kevin and Amy answered that call and spent time creating salads for the dinner, whenever help is needed. Over the years, they’ve helped feed thousands, and have passed out thousands of meals.

In addition, the Front Row Foundation is near and dear to their hearts. The Foundation operates like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but without age restrictions so that they are able to help anyone in need. Most of the people who are chosen to live life from the “Front Row” are terminally ill, with very little time left. The Front Row documents the experience through pictures and video and provides it as a keepsake for the families.

Alongside the others, they support the Dillon Theatre company, Coats for Kids and a new private school called The Peak School, a progressive learning school that relies completely on private funding.
