Kidpower’s Child Protection Skills And Leadership Training In Bay Area Draws Global Participation - Few Spots Available
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- Kidpower, a leading child safety education nonprofit, will welcome professionals from around the world to San Francisco for its premiere “summer institute”. Organizers say there are just five spots left in the August 3-day training in child safety advocacy and leadership skills to protect children from abuse, abduction and bullying within their schools, youth programs, and communities.
“The turnout for this training is really impressive,” says Irene van der Zande, Kidpower founder and executive director. “So far, we have participants coming from Vietnam, India, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Guadalupe, Germany, and Canada — as well as educators, parents, and children’s advocates from local Bay Area schools and organizations.”
“So often in the news, we see how the trap of what I call ‘The Illusion of Safety,’ and the lack of a few key personal safety skills, have led to such terrible suffering,” says van der Zande, who is the lead trainer for "Kidpower’s Skills for Child Protection" professional 3-day training in San Francisco, August 9 - 11, 2013.
“What if young people truly knew how to resist being tricked into accepting a ride, had the skills and confidence to intervene or speak up in the moment to stop bullying and abuse, and how to get help from busy adults? When the adults in leadership positions know how to protect children, then they can also empower them to take charge of their own safety.”
The Kidpower Skills for Child Protection summer training reveals key concepts based on Kidpower’s 24 years of developing and teaching “People Safety” to children, teens, adults, parents, teachers, other professionals, as well as its own instructors, worldwide. “People safety skills help people be safe with people at home, at school, online, out in the world... everywhere. They also help strengthen important relationships,” says van der Zande.
Five spots are still available for the professional training, which is open to professionals and volunteers who work with children and families, as well as parents, who want to advocate for child safety. Details and registration information for the “Skills for Child Protection” training, August 9-11 in San Francisco are available on Kidpower’s website:

“Kidpower has an outstanding track record of teaching parents and other caring adults effective skills without creating fear," says Manny Solano, Chief of Police, Watsonville City Police Department. "As a public safety officer, I strongly believe that a great deal of violence, including bullying and abuse, could be prevented if everyone had these skills.”
