KV. Kumar Inspires 1996 Traumatic Brain Injury Act Of U.S. Congress

GRANTS PASS, Ore., July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Imagine having an IQ of 175. Then, one day, you are involved in a car accident in which you suffer a traumatic brain injury. Your IQ is tested shortly after that and it reads 50. That's right. 50.

This is exactly what happened to KV. Kumar, who emigrated to the U.S. from India in 1968 with all of 8 dollars in his pocket. 47 years later, Kumar was the recipient of the 2015 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. However, before all that achievement, Kumar spent a decade healing his brain and spirit. Kleyne, for 30 years a leading international water researcher and an expert on the evaporation process, asked Kumar about the role water and proper breathing played in his recovery. Kumar shared that his grandfather had written a book in 1905 about water. That and his mother's influence on being proactive about one's health sustained him throughout his recovery. "Breathing clean air and drinking clean water are the most important things we can do to be healthy," Kumar said.

Kleyne asked Kumar if he had noticed how little education there is about water and the evaporation process. "We need to learn how earth is breathing and to hear what earth is whispering to us," said Kleyne. Kumar agreed, adding "common sense is the most uncommon thing."

Kumar not only fully recovered over time, he made (and continues to make) a positive impact in the lives of thousands of people. His story and lobbying led to the enactment of the 1996 Traumatic Brain Injury Act of the U.S. Congress. Kumar's unheralded advocacy benefits other victims of traumatic brain injury. He has reached out to the elderly as well. Once, he bought a car big enough to seat ten passengers. Kumar did this so that he could drive 10 elders around at a time. He took them shopping. He took them out so they could along the waterfront. He took them to collect their social security checks.

Kumar is also an ardent supporter of small businesses and entrepreneurs, and he has served, in various capacities, every president since Ronald Reagan. Yet, he made a point of affirming that simple solutions such as following Sharon Kleyne's five edicts for better health: drinking lots of pure water, breathing properly, moderate exercise, an appropriate personal diet and good sleep led to his complete recovery from traumatic brain injury.
