“In light of the impending days of winter, preparation is key in order to avoid breaking down or being stranded in inclement weather,” said Ben. “However, there are ways to ensure this does not happen.”

Primarily, suggests Ben, this entails cooling services and radiator flushing, especially for four-wheel drives. “Due to snow conditions in winter, four-wheel-drive maintenance and cooling services go hand-in-hand,” said Ben. “Four-wheel-drive owners need to be ahead of the game so that they have four-wheel drive before they need it, not after.”

Ben also states that making sure all fluid levels are topped off is essential for a car to operate correctly. Anti-freeze needs to be flushed despite factory claims of being good for the “lifetime” of your car, while correct mixture guarantees a low enough freezing point to prevent costly repairs to the cooling system and engine. And with temperature variations, it is important to have it correctly set.

In order to prepare your vehicle for winter conditions, Ben stresses utilizing the services of a qualified auto repair and maintenance shop, such as those provided by Lake City Transmission & Muffler, which specializes in preventative-maintenance-based auto care. “Hayden is a close-knit community and we are a close-knit shop, and our customers are like family,” said Ben.
