RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Land Trust Alliance, a national land conservation organization working to save the places people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America, is honoring multiple conservation leaders today during its annual conference in Raleigh.
Rally 2019: The National Land Conservation Conference, which brings together more than 1,800 people from throughout the United States and other countries to advance best practices in conservation, continues through Oct. 19 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
"These are the individuals and organizations that inspire our community to ever-higher levels of greatness," said Andrew Bowman, the Alliance's president and CEO. "When I think of land conservation leaders, these are the names that come to mind for me. It's a privilege to give them now some of the recognition they deserve."
Honorees include:
- Ashley Demosthenes, president and CEO of Lowcountry Land Trust in South Carolina, with the Ambassador Award. She consistently and effectively advocates for a broad range of federal policies supporting conservation.
- Sonoma Land Trust of Santa Rosa, California, with a National Land Trust Excellence Award. Sonoma Land Trust does more than protect some of the most beautiful land in California. It recognizes that land is at the very heart of its community.
- Jean Hocker, former president of the Land Trust Alliance, with special recognition. She died in August after a lifetime dedicated to conservation and the people who help make it happen. She played a key role in shaping the Alliance, ensuring land trusts both received the tools they needed and benefited from strong advocacy for federal funding and tax incentives for private land conservation.
Featuring more than 100 workshops and over a dozen seminars, Rally 2019 is the nation's largest annual gathering of land conservation professionals. Attendees will network with their colleagues, advance their skills and work to solve some of their greatest professional challenges. More information about Rally is available at alliancerally.org.
