WASHINGTON, Oct. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At 12:01 a.m. today, the Farm Bill expired. The following statement can be attributed to Andrew Bowman, president of the Land Trust Alliance:
"The Farm Bill plays a critical role in keeping America's working lands in working hands. It also yields significant economic benefits to farms, ranches and communities across our nation. We cannot live without the food and fiber the Farm Bill helps provide.
"I am disheartened that Congress allowed the Farm Bill to expire – especially when we are so close to a solution. The House and Senate passed versions of the Farm Bill this summer. It is past time for lawmakers to work out their differences.
"The Land Trust Alliance urges Congress to pass a Farm Bill that restores funding for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program to $500 million annually and enacts common-sense changes to make the program more efficient and effective.
"Congress must act now. Every day we lack a new Farm Bill is another day we stand to lose another farm or ranch."
