Atlanta LASIK Surgery Center Acquires Latest in Laser Technology
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 23, 2013 -- LASIK surgery center Atlanta Vision Institute recently acquired one of the most advanced and fastest lasers on the market, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser from Alcon Surgical. The laser is the latest approved for use in the United States by the FDA. It will be operational for surgeries at the Atlanta Vision Institute by mid-December.
Advanced LASIK surgery requires the use of two lasers. The Atlanta Vision Institute is pairing the latest and most advanced technologies: the EX500 and the fifth generation IntraLase iFS™ Advanced Femtosecond Laser. The clinic is the first in Atlanta to offer this combination of technology. The two machines working together has reduced surgical time by nearly 75% compared to 5 years ago; total laser time is now less than 20 seconds.
The EX500 Excimer Laser is the only one to operate at 500 Hz and produces an average treatment time of 1.4 seconds per diopter. It was ergonomically designed and has a range of state-of-the-art features including a powerful multi-dimensional eye tracker, heads up display, high-resolution video system, and built-in, non-contact online pachymetry, all of which reduce the potential for corneal dehydration, flap shrinkage and patient fixation fatigue. These innovations allow for safer, more precise and customized LASIK surgeries.
“The EX500 laser is one of the fastest in the country and average treatment times are less than eight seconds,” said Dr. Farooq Ashraf, MD, FACS, medical director of the Atlanta Vision Institute. “With that precision and technology, the LASIK procedure has become even safer. Our clinic is constantly updating as the newest technology hits the market and we’re proud to offer our patients the most advanced treatments available.”
Dr. Ashraf is the founder of the Atlanta Vision Institute and a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal and refractive surgery, as well as other treatments for astigmatism, glaucoma, cataracts and other eye conditions. He obtained his advanced training in ocular surgery at Johns Hopkins University and has performed over 40,000 LASIK procedures. In addition to his Atlanta practice, Dr. Ashraf has also founded the Atlanta Vision Clinic in Dubai, UAE. For more information, visit http://www.atlanta2020.com.
