LASIK Surgery Clinic in Dubai Recently Installed New State-of-the-Art Equipment to Treat and Prevent Corneal Degeneration
Dubai, United Arab Emirates (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- On October 24, 2013 the Atlanta Vision Clinic in Dubai received the Avendro KXL system to perform LASIK Xtra ® and cross-linking surgical procedures. The equipment was installed and operational within a week of arrival. The clinic had several patients waiting up to two months for the equipment and technology to arrive.
The Avedro KXL system is a new and experimental system used to provide LASIK surgery and simultaneous cross-linking procedures, referred to as LASIK Xtra ®. Cross-linking is a simple procedure that follows the standard LASIK surgery. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) drops are applied to the eye and then exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light which creates a chemical reaction that forms bonds between the collagen molecules that make up the framework of the cornea. As a result, the cornea becomes stiffer and stronger.
Cross-linking is a new procedure introduced to treat, and prevent, corneal ectasia. This disease is a degeneration of the cornea in which a thinner, post-LASIK cornea cannot withstand the standard intraocular pressure (IOP) of the eye, resulting in further thinning of the cornea, bulging, or protrusions.
“This is the newest advancement in LASIK surgery and technology,” said Dr. Farooq Ashraf, MD, FACS, the medical director of Atlanta Vision Clinic. “We’re one of the first LASIK surgery centers in Dubai to have this cutting edge system and we’re excited about providing our patients this progressive method for treating and preventing eyesight problems.”
Dr. Ashraf is an ophthalmologist, experienced LASIK surgeon and founder of the Atlanta Vision Clinic in Dubai.
