By connecting stress-induced tendencies to breathing exercises, the Breathing Pen trains the mind to recognize the first symptoms of stress, and subsequently conditions the body to transition into a healthy breathing exercise

The ULEX Breathing Pen from Livotion, a multifunctional pen and breathing device that helps those break free of unhealthy distractions and stress-induced habits (see video), today launched on Kickstarter.
ULEX is an all-natural stress reliever that fuses the benefits of wellness activities by facilitating regulated breathing exercises, improving physical health, mental health, and cognitive performance.
This revolutionary pen was created by Dr. Milton Aguirre, who struggled with stress and anxiety while working toward his PhD in Mechanical Engineering focused on Healthcare Product Design and Product Development.
“At the peak of my academic career I turned to smoking, eating, and drinking as forms of self-medicated relief, but eventually found yoga and meditation as an alternative, healthier method of relieving stress,” said Dr. Milton, founder of Livotion LLC. “I found that regulated breathing exercises helped me relax, which lead me to the development of the Breathing Pen.”
ULEX is designed to promote three life lessons that use regulated breathing to manage stress: (1) become aware of stress, (2) take action and (3) become confident. By combining fidgeting, resistance breathing and an everyday utility, ULEX transitions physical stress behaviors, like pen-biting and pen-clicking, into deep respiratory cycles, resulting in a discreet form of stress relief, while still functioning as a pen.
The Breathing Pen can reduce stress at its peak as part of one’s daily breathing routine. Once users recognize their stress-induced behaviors, they can experience relief by pulling down on the small side lever and taking a deep breath. The control of the lever adjusts the airflow resistance as they inhale, facilitating regulated breathing exercises at maximum comfort.
“By connecting stress-induced tendencies to breathing exercises, the Breathing Pen trains the mind to recognize the first symptoms of stress, and subsequently conditions the body to transition into a healthy breathing exercise,” Dr. Milton said. “With just a few breaths, you can immediately notice stress leaving your body. Its working mechanism aligns with ancient breathing techniques, known as pranayama, but packaged within in a discreet and readily-accessible writing pen.”
