Maryland flag lovers and hot air balloon enthusiasts alike will come together in joyful expectation as Tailwinds Over Frederick presents the inaugural launch of their 85 ft. tall, by 55 ft. wide Maryland flag balloon at Linganore Winecellars in Mt. Airy, Maryland. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 20th, from 2:00 - 6:00 PM, with the backup date, Wednesday, October 21st if the weather conditions are difficult.

“We believe that this is the largest Maryland flag in the history of the State,” said Patrick Smith, owner and operator of Tailwinds Over Frederick. “The balloon measures out at 80,000 cubic feet.”

To commemorate this event, Linganore Winecellars is marking the event by releasing a specially labeled, limited release wine, featuring the Maryland themed flag balloon on the label.

Liz Tomalis, 2nd generation family member at Linganore Winecellars, said “It's always great to work other local small businesses. Marylanders are proud of our flag and we love opportunities that band us together, especially in the current environment.” The event is open to the public on the sprawling 20 acres that surround the winery. There will be live music and food trucks available during the event.

Linganore is one of Maryland’s oldest wineries with a long history in the state. Wines are made with grapes that are grown on the 80-acre vineyard; a craft that has now been passed down to the third generation of winemakers in the family.

A second event has also been scheduled for a multiple balloon launch on Saturday, October 31st, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM. There will be live music and food trucks available at that event as well.
