As Consultwebs.com Marketing Director Tanner Jones noted, a significant focus of the three-day event at The Bellagio Hotel was on how attorneys can use mass media – particularly the Internet – to inform the public about mass tort cases such as those involving dangerous drugs and medical devices.
“If thousands of people are adversely affected by a product, but only a few know enough about the problem to contact a lawyer, then it can doom efforts to bring about justice and force changes that protect consumers, which is the ultimate goal of a mass tort action,” Jones said.
“This makes getting accurate information out to consumers an essential part of the process – and the Internet can be a powerful tool for communicating that information,” he added. “In the past, mass tort lawyers may have relied on TV advertising. As several attorneys commented to us during the seminar, today, the Internet is the medium that spreads the word. Other considerations are that the Internet complements TV, and the majority of prospective TV clients visit a law firm’s website prior to calling the firm.”
Jones stated that mass tort communication efforts often involve going beyond a law firm’s website and blog. Social media, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, online press releases and outreach efforts by seasoned online marketing professionals can also be effective, he said.
“A law firm has to be creative and willing to explore the many different Internet marketing tools that are available today,” he said.
The Mass Torts Made Perfect seminars are presented by The Levin Papantonio Law Firm of Pensacola, Florida. According to the organization’s website, more than 430 professionals attended the October 8-10 event as well as 56 exhibitors.
