The Law Office of Edgardo Martinez Urges DACA Recipients with 3 Year Work Permits to Exchange Them for 2 Year
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 31, 2015 -- According to a NBC News article on July 16, 2015, in February, a Texas judge blocked President Obama’s efforts to award three-year work permits to young immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) program. However, 2,500 three-year Employment Authorization Documents (“EAD”) were mistakenly issued by the federal government soon after the court injunction. The government has asked for the permits to be returned so they may be replaced with two-year permits and has begun visiting homes of people who received them when there has been no response to letters and phone calls. In cases where they are not returned, immigrants may lose their DACA eligibility. Tampa, FL, Attorney Edgardo Martinez, highly focused in immigration law, has strongly advised anyone with one of these permits permit to return it.
“It is imperative that anyone with a mistakenly issued work permit to return them to the federal government immediately,” said attorney Edgardo Martinez. “There is no benefit in keeping the permits and worse, anyone not returning them is at risk for deportation. That said, I also want to remind anyone getting a visit from Immigration officials not to panic. The officials are only seeking the documents, which will be replaced with two-year permits.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has set up an online tool which will advise immigrants if they need to return their permit (https://my.uscis.gov/daca_ead). In cases where immigrants did return the 3-year permits but only after their DACA was terminated as a penalty, they may reapply for DACA consideration and a new work permit.
