Alexxa Hendershott, a recent addition to the Lektro team, is celebrated by her employers.

I feel like I am breaking new ground here.

The field of aerospace engineering is rife with competition, and it takes a truly remarkable person to stand out among the best. LEKTRO is always actively trying to find the best of the best, and are enthusiastic about hiring new experts in the field of engineering. One such expert that they are thrilled to formally announce as a new addition to their team is Alexxa Hendershott. Alexxa, a prior student of welding at the Tongue Point Job Corps Center, started at LEKTRO nearly one year ago. Alexxa is one of the few African Americans in Clatsop County, a minority of just 0.7% of the population. “Some days it’s like being a chocolate chip in a snowstorm,” Alexxa laughs, “I feel like I’m breaking new ground here.”

A year ago, Scott Mart, a fabrication foreman at LEKTRO contacted the welding teacher at Tongue Point to inquire if there were any students looking for a job. Most students, upon hearing that the job opportunity was in Astoria, quickly declined the job offer, but not Hendershott. She’d been born in Seattle and lived for several years in in Olympia, WA and enjoyed the northwest. Dave Curl, the welding teacher at Tongue Point spoke very highly of Alexxa, and brought the opportunity to her.

“It was an chance for change,” Alexxa smiled, “I was excited to start over, my very first career.” Hendershott quickly became a vital part of the LEKTRO team, working on multiple points of the assembly lines, welding brake pedals and other small parts. She recently helped to build the ‘4,300th LEKTRO tug.’ If there wasn’t anything to weld, Alexxa happily pitched in to help with drilling, grinding, and sanding.

“A versatile and hard worker, Alexxa has proven to be a great addition to the LEKTRO fabrication team, and we are proud to have her on board,” said Henry Balensifer stated on behalf of the LEKTRO team, echoing the voice of the staff in their respect and appreciation of their new teammate.

LEKTRO, Inc is a family-owned business based on the premise that hard work and quality materials combine to produce stellar results. Building on the foundation of innovation begun by the late Wilt Paulson in 1945, Wilt and Violet's son Eric has shepherded the company to world-wide reach and continuous expansion into new and more challenging marketplaces.
