LexisNexis Embraces a Test of Endurance; Enlists as Title Sponsor for IRONMAN 70.3 Raleigh
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) May 09, 2014 -- LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, announced today it will be the official title sponsor of – and field an all-employee team to compete in – the 2014 IRONMAN® 70.3® Raleigh triathlon on June 1st 2014. This second annual event is a test of endurance covering just over seventy miles beginning with a 1.2 mile swim in Chatham County’s Jordan Lake, a 56 mile bicycle race through Chatham and Wake Counties and finishing with a 13.1 mile run that ends in downtown Raleigh.
Last year, IRONMAN held this endurance race in Raleigh for the first time to enormous success, and sold out almost immediately while also attracting thousands of endurance race enthusiasts, supporters and volunteers. For LexisNexis, the competition and sponsorship provides an opportunity for the company to both continue supporting the local community and promoting health and wellness as a corporate priority.
“We strive to identify opportunities to contribute to our local community while also investing in our people by supporting personal goals such as pursuing a healthy lifestyle,” said BJ Schaknowski, vice president of Sales and Professional Services, at LexisNexis Business of Law Software Solutions (BLSS) division. Schaknowski regularly competes in endurance races, including IRONMAN® competitions, and is serving as the executive sponsor of Team LexisNexis for this event.
“More than 20 members of our LexisNexis team have signed up for this IRONMAN 70.3 event and even if most of us never reach IRONMAN level, getting and staying healthy has become a core part of our LexisNexis Raleigh culture,” noted Schaknowski. “Even more employees, who are not competing in the race, will be actively supporting the event through volunteer work at an aid station, water points and other volunteer activities.”
The events’ timing also coincides with the company’s move to new offices on NC State’s Centennial Campus. The office move, which was announced last fall, has been conducted in phases and is on track to be completed about the time the 2014 LexisNexis IRONMAN 70.3 Raleigh triathlon is held.
“We have in excess of 40 open positions on our careers site at the moment and expanding our hiring to support our growth is important to our future success,” added Schaknowski. “Hiring great talent takes a strong local brand and presence. This event, like many others we sponsor throughout the year, is an opportunity to convey to the Triangle area that LexisNexis is committed to the area.”
Since the IRONMAN 70.3 series began in 2006, it has quickly become one of the most popular endurance events in the world. The event has grown from 17 races and 15,000 participants in its inception, to over 70 races and more than 100,000 participants worldwide today.
