New York, NY (PRWEB) June 30, 2014
The official book launch for Eric Mondschein’s critically acclaimed “Life at 12 College Road," to be held on July 10 in New York City, will both celebrate and reflect the diverse charms found in the author’s collection of “real-life” short stories.
In addition to readings from Mondschein, the event will feature refreshments, musical interludes, and readings from fellow Something or Other Publishing authors Wade Fransson (Madison, WI) and Rohini Singh (Trinidad and Tobago). It will be held at 53 East 11th Street in New York from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Life at 12 College Road” differs significantly from most traditional memoirs in both content and form. Rather than relate the most newsworthy moments of his life in a linear, chronological narrative, Mondschein instead focuses on more intimate memories from his childhood life in rural New York in a series of 33 colorful vignettes.
“In reflecting on my past, I found that it was not the major, earth-shattering events that were truly significant for me,” said Mondschein. “Rather, it was the small things, many of which I’d forgotten until sitting down to write the book.”
While his approach to “Life at 12 College Road” may not have been orthodox, Mondschein has painted a mosaic of a time and place that nevertheless seems traditional and familiar to many American readers. The book has piled up almost universally positive reviews, and has been featured favorably in numerous print and online publications. In his review of the book, Emmy Award-winning former CBS network news correspondent David Henderson writes: “Reading ‘Life at 12 College Road’ is like leafing through an album of treasured faded photographs of an American family, revealing all its foibles and cherished moments. And, in each intimate memory, we are enveloped in an enduring love.”
The release of “Life at 12 College Road” comes on the heels of positive exposure for the short story form, with renowned short story writer Alice Munro having been named 2013 Nobel laureate for literature. “I was really pleased to see Ms. Munro recognized for her work. She’s truly a master,” said Mondschein, though he notes that recognition wasn’t a factor in choosing to tell his story in short story form. “In the case of “Life at 12 College Road,” the format just seemed to choose itself. And I think it chose well.”
The print version of “Life at 12 College Road” is already available on Amazon.com. The e-book version is scheduled to be released in tandem with the book launch.
