Dr. Fix is a gifted toxicologist and safety assurance professional with a long track record of success at globally dominant brands in the consumer products, foods, and pesticides industries. Mr. Cox is an experienced biologist and risk assessor who has reviewed hundreds of industrial chemicals, biological agents, nanomaterials, and novel chemistries in his roles with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Over the course of her stellar career, Lori A. Fix, Ph.D., DABT®, has developed and executed risk assessment, safety assurance, and regulatory compliance efforts at the highest levels of some of the world’s largest agricultural, food, and consumer goods companies, including Reckitt Benckiser, Unilever, and Bayer Crop Science. As a proven scientific manager, strategic planner, and project leader, Dr. Fix is a powerful asset to clients seeking successful and persistent outcomes for products and companies engaged with EPA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), and regulations and codes, including the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), California’s Proposition 65, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) (now the Personal Care Products Council) Consumer Commitment Code (2006), ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (2007), and the European Union (EU) Cosmetic Directive.
In addition to her corporate leadership positions, Dr. Fix’s global leadership roles in the field of safety assurance include serving as Chair of the Chemical Management Committee of the former Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) (now the Consumer Brands Association), past Chair of the Society of Toxicology Placement Committee, and as a representative on the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Life Sciences Committee for Food and Chemical Safety. Dr. Fix earned a Ph.D. in Toxicology from North Carolina State University and an MS in Entomology from Texas A&M.
James W. Cox, MS, most recently served as Acting Lead Biologist in Risk Assessment Branch 1, New Chemicals Division, EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT), having held positions of increasing responsibility and scope since joining OPPT. He served as Chair of the Risk Assessment Division’s (RAD) Hazard and Risk Assessment Technical Team and was a key member of the team providing analysis and recommendations to inform EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention’s (OCSPP) policy on new approach methodologies (NAM).
Mr. Cox offers clients technical excellence and seasoned regulatory process guidance for products subject to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), FIFRA, and other federal and state chemical regulatory programs. Mr. Cox provides expertise in the collection and analysis of data; the design, evaluation, and development of models; and the presentation of scientific data in a clear and defensible manner to support chemical submissions.
Prior to his career at EPA OPPT, Mr. Cox was a biologist with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), serving in the toxicology directorate of the U.S. Army Public Health Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and a public safety officer with the State of Maryland.
