Preeminent Personal Injury Lawyer David Drexler Instructs Colleagues on “Zen and Trial Presentation” at Miami Professional Liability Attorneys Conference
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 -- In a May, 2014 annual conference of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys (ABPLA), David Drexler, a preeminent Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, took time off from his busy trial schedule to play the role of Trial Attorney Guru to the group’s membership. Drawing on his nearly 40 years practicing law and Diplomate, nationally board certified by the ABPLA as a trial attorney specialist in at the areas of medical malpractice and legal malpractice, as well as a long-time practitioner of Yoga, Drexler presented his esteemed colleagues with a lecture and Powerpoint illustrating the “Top Ten Zen Tips for Trial PreZentation.”
The ABPLA’s membership roster boasts some of the most highly regarded medical and legal malpractice lawyers in America, including Drexler, one of the very few lawyers who are double board certified as a trial attorney specialist in both legal and medical malpractice cases.
“Our membership is an esteemed and experienced group of trial attorneys,” stated Reeve McNamara, Executive Director of the ABPLA. “To lure them out of their offices and courtrooms, we need to bring out the big guns and David Drexler is a speaker we can count on to bring entertainment, eloquence and content depth to the occasion each year. Our members look forward to his presentations.”
Drexler, who was elected to the Executive Committee of the ABPLA Board of Governors, has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career as a trial attorney applying Zen and Yoga-inspired methods, and his lecture demonstrated the methodology for mastering trial presentation through the practice of mindfulness, meditation, controlled breathing and physical postures.
According to Drexler, “the benefits of Yoga improve mental readiness, body awareness, alignment, concentration and balance in order to reduce trial-induced stress and gain focus and clarity.”
Newly elected ABPLA President William C. Callaham lauded Drexler’s address as “original, entertaining and inspiring”.
”Mr. Drexler has the well-earned reputation of being a tenacious trial lawyer who has spent the better part of his career in the trenches fighting difficult, high stakes cases where the odds against winning are enormous,” stated Callaham. “One can only imagine the sort of pressure he performs under while trying cases like his recent civil rights/wrongful police shooting case. If anyone has wondered how David copes with such a high level of stress, where so much is at stake and virtually no room for error and still win a substantial verdict, now, thanks to his presentation, we know.”
The civil rights case was tried in Federal Court, on behalf of Angel and Jennifer Mendez, who were shot 15 times by L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputies during an illegal and warrantless raid while they were sleeping in their makeshift home in the backyard of a residence in Lancaster, CA (CASE NO. CV 11-04771-MWF (PJWx)). Drexler won a $4.1 million dollar verdict.
Drexler, who has practiced Yoga and Zen since the Seventies, spoke with confidence and authority, using a PowerPoint presentation for imagery, as he provided personal examples from real-time trial situations of the practical application of mindfulness, breathing techniques, mantras, meditation and physical postures.
Looking to the future, Drexler plans to expand his lecture into a number of larger three-day seminars that he will host in Los Angeles as early as Spring 2015.
“While the presentation was serious and deserving of the MCLE accreditation (Mandatory Continuing Legal Education units), David sprinkled it with so much wit and humor,” stated McNamara. “He’s an expert orator who knows how to deliver a speech, hold the group’s attention and he knows exactly when to deliver a punch line. Our attending members loved it.”
Over the past 38 years, Drexler has tried over 200 cases, obtaining numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts, ranging as high as $14 million dollars. The number of accolades he has received includes nomination as California Trial Attorney of the Year and recognition as a Super Lawyer every year since 1996. L.A. Direct Magazine proclaimed Mr. Drexler “a big city attorney with small town values”.
