International L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest for Speculative Fiction Announces Increase of Illustrator/Writer Entrants
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 01, 2013 -- Headquarters of the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future contest announced a marked increase of entrants for the 25th year of the contest that are both writers and illustrators. "In the past, 99.9% of all of our entrants were either a writer or an illustrator only and would enter one or the other of the contests. It is no surprise as comic book oriented stories continue to increase in popularity, and it is most likely that Comic Con has plenty to do with that trend," contest Director Joni Labaqui stated. "Our publisher, Galaxy Press, of the L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future books, which is where our illustrator and/or writers contestants are published, informed us that sales of the book were quite brisk this year."
"There have been only three people in the history of the contests to ever win both, and none of them did it in the first year," Labaqui continued.
L. Ron Hubbard saw the need in 1984 to help those who have talent and need to be seen and heard. That was when the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest was created. The contest launches 12 writer and 12 illustrator careers every year with the annual anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future.
"We still continue to accept hard copy entries for those who don't have access to the internet," Labaqui continued, "but the majority of entrants now enter online. With no postage costs, it is virtually free to enter."
In addition to being published, the support and encouragement for the winners consists of prize money, a week long workshop which covers the basics of the business, mentoring by famous judges, an awards ceremony and press coverage.
