As the winners leave after the week-long workshop and gala awards event held annually, they leave with more wisdom than when they entered, freely given to them by the famous judges and the contest founder's writing essays. Jacob Boyd very aptly phrased it "it is like drinking from a water hose." Winners take the advice to heart, producing volumes of stories and promoting themselves at an unusual rate. News of the continued success is constantly arriving at contest headquarters.
In just the past week Jacob A. Boyd had good news two days in a row. First he heard that his story No Kill, No Pay was accepted at UK's horror and dark fantasy magazine, "Black Static." The following day he was told that "Analog" magazine picked up his story titled Release, which will appear later this year.
Eric Cline just sold a story to "Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine," Michael Rimar just sold his story The Devil's Due to "Black Treacle" ezine which will release in the middle of August. This was the story that Michael wrote while attending the contest's famous workshop, where all winners write a story in 24 hours.
Patty Jansen just released her book, The Shattered World Within, appearing in Amazon.com. Brad Torgersen just signed a deal with WFP for a collection of stories and Nnedi Okorafor's latest novel Kabu Kabu has an October 2nd release date.
This is a small sampling. The past winners keep the contest busy tabulating their successes, which is an amazing testament to the power of the workshop.
