Lucky Dog Animal Rescue Passes 16,000 Facebook Fans
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (LDAR) has more than 16,00 fans on Facebook, making them the most followed rescue in the Washington DC area. LDAR’s fans base is not limited to the DC area but is truly national in scope. Fans are particularly drawn to the many “success stories” that are posted on the group’s page each day.
Facebook is one of the biggest social networking in the world. LDAR uses their Facebook page to recruit volunteers and fosters, raise money for dogs and cats in need, and share stories about the rescue’s success.
“Because we are a volunteer run organization with no physical location, Facebook is an essential tool for getting our pets the help and care they need,” said Mirah Horowitz, founder and executive director of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. “We are thrilled with the growing size of our Facebook family.”
Facebook is particularly important for LDAR’s fundraising efforts. LDAR is supported solely by adoption fees and donations. Currently, LDAR is using facebook to support fundraisers for three specific animals: Leeland, a dog who underwent an expensive MRI in an effort to find the cause of his fly-biting seizures; Zeke, a dog who needs an MRI to determin the cause of extreme shoulder pain, and Leo, a kitten who needs a leg amputation due to a severe broken leg. Fundraising efforts for each of these animals are ongoing.
LDAR relies on the support of the community not just for fundraising but to help keep its mission going. Facebook is an important way for LDAR to advertise adoption events and volunteer opportunities. LDAR also uses Facebook to advance its educational mission, sharing articles on pet health, training, boarding, and more.
LDAR’s most popular posts are the success stories of dogs living with their forever families. “Success stories really highlight what drives every one of our more than 1,000 volunteers to put in endless hours finding adoptive homes for our dogs and cats,” said Horowitz. “There are so many sad stories out there. So many pets in need. We try to highlight the good work or our team, the light at the end of the tunnel.”
