RALEIGH, N.C., April 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Lulu.com announced earlier this month the launch of their 1st annual $5k for 5k Writing Contest, offering authors an opportunity to share their original works for a chance at a cash prize of $5,000.
"After 17 years of extensive market research, we've concluded that people really enjoy money," said Matt Briel, Lulu's VP of Marketing. "Four out of five authors surveyed said that they would accept more money, given the chance. This contest is a great way for authors to get that chance."
The contest entries will be accepted through June 30, 2019 at 11:59 PM ET. Any original fiction or nonfiction between 2,000 – 5,000 words is valid for entry. Independent bookstores, including Quail Ridge Books, The Regulator Bookshop and Read With Me, have been tapped to judge the shortlisted submissions.
"Our marketing team really keeps their fingers on the pulse of what matters to authors," said Kathy Hensgen, Lulu President & COO. "When they said that earning money was on trend for 2019, I knew we had to get in on the action."
The contest theme is "Crossing Borders." Stories about spiritually, emotionally, or even literally overcoming obstacles are all welcome and encouraged.
In addition to the $5,000 cash prize, the winner of the contest will be included in the Crossing Borders Anthology and will receive a ticket to BookCon 2020 in NYC. Shortlisted submissions will also be included in the Crossing Borders Anthology, and authors will receive a free copy of the anthology along with some mildly entertaining Lulu swag.
