Lynne McDaniel-Sanderson’s new children’s book gives voice to survivors of child abuse
Edwardsville, IL (PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- Author and Registered Nurse, Lynne McDaniel-Sanderson, has over 18 years of experience in the public health sector. During this time, she worked with many families and community groups. A victim herself, McDaniel-Sanderson kept her own secret in the dark until she was an adult. She now aims to ensure that no child carries that burden as she did, through the writing of a book.
McDaniel-Sanderson invites readers both young and old to experience her new children’s book, “Mattie Tells Her Secret” (published by AuthorHouse), which aims to equip children with the tools to talk to their parents about abuse.
Mattie, a young girl, is harboring a secret – her uncle is inappropriately touching her. To make matters worse, her uncle has told her that her parents will no longer love her if she comes clean.
Throughout “Mattie Tells Her Secret,” readers will watch Mattie as she struggles to find the courage to tell her parents about her uncle. Will she ever be comfortable enough to tell them the truth about her uncle?
“When children are in abusive situations, they are often afraid to tell,” McDaniel-Sanderson says. “Society is in a period where they can recognize the risks to children and find ways to address them such as using ‘Mattie Tells Her Secret’ as a tool.”
