When an Oregon Episcopal School senior needed materials for his volunteer building project, Macadam Floor And Design provided him with the necessary vinyl flooring and granite countertops. On May 13, Ted Morissette and his schoolmates delivered an 85-square-foot, pitched-roof tiny house to Dignity Village, a former tent community in Portland that helps residents find housing and jobs.

Morissette's sturdy tiny house, framed with Douglas fir, features an open main level and a sleeping loft. The house will replace a makeshift shelter that the city of Portland plans to demolish. Morissette designed the house by watching YouTube videos and researching the grassroots tiny house movement online. As the name suggests, a tiny house is a small house that is designed to be inexpensive and portable. In Dignity Village, his structure joins similar brick-and-mortar houses in an area where residents once lived in tents and tarp shelters.

"We are proud to have contributed to Ted Morissette's project, and we congratulate him for it," said Anthony Ivelia, sales manager for Macadam Floor And Design. "Ted reflects the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of our company, and he and his friends made a valuable contribution to the Portland community."
