Manasota Trial Lawyers Board Meeting Draws FL State Attorney Ed Brodsky & Other Distinguished Guests
Bradenton, Florida (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- The Manasota Trial Lawyers Board (MTLB) held their June meeting and featured an impressive VIP guest list including, Florida State Attorney Ed Brodsky.
Other VIP guests of the gathering included, Art Jackman, Assistant State Attorney, Paul Anderson, President of the Florida Justice Association (FJA), and The Honorable Charles Williams. Hosted by Bernard F. Walsh founder of the MTLB and partner at Shapiro Goldman Babboni & Walsh, additional guests included Todd Copeland, Future President of the FJA, Charlie Ann Syprett of Legal Aid of Manasota, Jeff Porter, Central Florida Director of the FJA and John Fox, Eagle Liaison of the FJA.
The June Manasota Trial Lawyers Board meeting also featured an impressive speaker list including remarks and lectures from highly experienced and successful trial attorneys from several law firms.
Keith Mitnik, Esq., a Senior Trial Lawyer for Morgan and Morgan and an industry legend in trial and jury selection, spoke on ‘Jury Selection Under the New Case Law – 2013’. Mr. Mitnik has been interviewed by 60 Minutes, and represented an impressive list of clients including Judges, Elected Officials, Musicians (Back Street Boys), the Harlem Globetrotters and Casey Anthony.
Kevin Woods, Esq., a partner at Harmon, Woods, Parker & Abrunzo, PA – One of the leading attorney in the Tampa Bay area, spoke on ‘How to get Judge to Strike the Bad Jurors for Cause’. Mr. Woods has won one of the largest compensation verdicts for a closed head injury.
Paul Anderson, the President of the Florida Justice Association spoke on defeating a newly proposed measure (“commonly accepted billing for area”) that would severely limit a plaintiff's compensation by restricting the allowable amount a jury can award to the Medicaid fee schedule.
This proposed change would include all civil cases including automobile, motorcycle, and trucking accident victims and would negatively impacted these victims. In cases of severe injury or trauma the vast majority of doctors and specialist required to provide qualified care do not accept the Medicare fee schedule, thus if this proposed law were to take effect, those gravely injured would not be able to get compensated for the medical treatment they need.
Paul Anderson, also spoke on other harmful measures that would have weakened the legal protection for Floridians that the FJA, Manasota Trial Lawyers Board and groups like them successfully blocked including, Property Insurance Reform, Punitive Damage Limitation, Gas Can Immunity to name a few.
Manasota Trial Lawyers Board founder Bernard F. Walsh Esq., commented on the amazing success of the MTLB meeting, “the Manasota Trial Lawyers Board dinners are increasing in members and guest. With the quality of speakers obtained by the MTLB and the attendance rate like we had at the June 26, 2013 dinner, we are able to help promote justice and fairness for injured persons and strengthen the civil justice system.”
In addition to the lectures, dinner and networking, attendees of the event also earned 2 CLE (Continuing Legal Education) Credits. Earning additional CLE Credits is required by the Florida Bar association.
